Types of Distance Learning Courses

Online Course: An internet/online course is asynchronous, meaning the instructor and student are not interacting in "real" time and therefore online courses do not meet on campus. Instruction is delivered 100% online through the College’s learning management system (LMS). The LMS is used to access course materials, participate in instructional activities, submit assignments, complete assessments, and receive course-related instruction and information. Students must have access to a reliable computer with a webcam and internet access. Students are required to submit academic work through the LMS by 11:59 p.m. on the census date to remain enrolled in the course.

Hybrid Course: Hybrid courses are synchronous and asynchronous with more than 50% taught online and less than 50% of the class will be taught on-campus. The College’s learning management system (LMS) is used to provide access to course materials, instructional activities, assignments, assessments, and course-related instruction and information. Students must have access to a reliable computer with a webcam and internet access and the ability to attend scheduled on-campus sessions. Students are required to either attend a scheduled class session or submit academic work through the LMS by 11:59 p.m. on the census date to remain enrolled in the course.

Blended Course: Blended courses are synchronous and asynchronous and are taught on-campus with less than or equal to 50% of the class being taught online.
