Audit

A student may audit a course for which he/she does not wish to receive credit. The auditing student does not have to take required examinations; otherwise, participation and attendance in class is on the same basis as a credit student. The fee for auditing a class is the same as the fee for credit. Certain curricula, because of special requirements, have no courses open for “audit.” Registration for an audit will follow the same procedure as for credit. Students may change a credit to an audit during the first 10 days of class. In no case will students be allowed to change an audit to a credit. Students will not be allowed to receive credit by examination for a course that they have audited.

Senior Course Audit

Senior citizens, age 65 years or older on the first day of the course, may audit courses with the following guidelines as outlined in North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges Code (SBCCC) under 1E SBCCC 1000.2:

Tuition is waived. Local fees associated with course sections may be charged.
Enrollment in a course is dependent on space availability. A student who audits a course section shall not displace students enrolling or registering to receive a grade, academic credit, continuing education unit, or certificate of completion in the course section.
Registration must be processed within the schedule adjustment period during a term or session. Schedule adjustment is generally the first two days of a term or session.
Self-supporting courses are not eligible.
